Mike Price is the guitar and harmony lecturer in the jazz area of the School of Music. Mike spent the '80's in the North East USA studying and playing music. As well as his studies at Berklee and New England Conservatory he attended workshops and had lessons with the internationally renowned jazz musicians John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Dave Holland, Gary Burton, Mick Goodrick, George Russell and more recently John Abercrombie. Mike’s teaching philosophy is based on the premise that innovation in music comes from a good understanding of the past.

In the U.S.A. Mike played with the well-known jazz artists Dave Santoro, Nat Reeves, Randy Johnston, and Mike Mussilami. Since returning to Australia, Mike has played with many of Australia's top jazz performers including Bernie McGann, Julian Lee, Craig Scott, Dale Barlow, Darryl Pratt, Bob Sedergreen, Nick McBride and Cameron Undy.

His current ensemble, the ‘Mike Price Trio’, is a vehicle for Mike’s compositions which result from his research into extended harmony, polytonality and world music rhythms. The ensemble can be heard regularly in N.S.W. and the A.C.T.

School of Music faculty member since 1990.
