Deborah Crisp studied at Sydney University and the NSW Conservatorium. After graduating with BMus (honours) in performance she took up a position of Research Assistant at the University of New England, where she worked for two years on the Australian Music Studies project. After the completion of the project she remained at the university teaching music history, theory and piano performance. She was appointed to the Musicology staff of the ANU's School of Music in 1987. In 1995 she was awarded the degree of Master of Music (research).
Deborah has published articles in Australian and international journals. Her primary research interests lie in the 19th century: particularly early romanticism, links between music and literature, the use of mainstream 19th-century repertoire in post-war cinema, and music in colonial Australia. She is currently guest editor for Australasian Music Research.

School of Music faculty member since 1987.
