The American soprano graduated from the Eastman School of Music and
the University of Maryland with respectively Bachelor of Music and Master
of Music. In 1978 she launched her European career in Düsseldorf’s
prestigious Deutsche Oper am Rhein. A frequent guest soloist in the
Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, as well as in
the opera houses of Geneva, Barcelona, Brussels, Madrid, Hamburg Frankfurt,
Japan and all three opera houses in Berlin. Beginning her career in
the mainstream coloratura repertoire (Queen of the Night, Zerbinetta,
Olympia, Blondchen), her vocal development lead to the roles of Traviata,
Lucia, Konstanze, Manon, Arabella as well as many contemporary operas.
In addition to her extensive stage experience, Ms. Lindsley’s
European debut on the concert stage was jump-started with the Berlin
Philharmonic under Dohnanyi and continued to thrive performing opera,
oratorio and Lieder with orchestra and chamber orchestra from a long
list of composers from Bach to Schoenberg, Elliott Carter and Hans Werner
Henze. She has performed with fine conductors such as James Levine,
Harnoncourt, Colin Davis, Barenboim, Menuhin, Markus Stenz and Frühbeck
de Burgos with the Cleveland Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, Vienna
Philharmonic and the Spanish National Orchestra to mention a few. She
has participated in such world-famous music festivals as the Salzburger
Festspiele,Maggio Musicale (Florence), Bregenzer Festspiele, Blossom
Festival (Cleveland) as well as appearances in Carnegie Hall and Lincoln
Center.
Ms Lindsley has also recorded a long list of CDs, live television and
radio broadcasts. Her Australian debut was in the State Theater in Melbourne
and the Sydney Opera House with Nicolette Fraillon conducting the Australian
Ballet’s production of “Bella Trilogy”. In addition,
Ms. Lindsley has performed in recital with John Luxton in Llewellyn
Hall, participated twice in the Canberra Chamber Music Festival, most
recently with Haydn’s one-act opera “Ariana a Naxos”
for soprano and fortepiano with Geoffrey Lancaster.
Celina Lindsley’s tertiary teaching career began in Europe as
a faculty member of the Robert Schumann Hochschule für Musik where
her successful students were engaged in opera houses throughout Germany
as soloists or as professional chorus members either in opera houses
or those affiliated with the major radio and symphony orchestras. As
Co-Director of “Knowbody’s Singing” Workshops (Body
Awareness Coaching for Singers) Ms. Lindsley has been active in Europe
and the USA with prospective seminars in Australia and Canada in 2005.
A Senior Lecturer in the Vocal Studies Area at the Australian National
University’s School of Music since January 2003, Ms.Lindsley teaches
voices of all vocal categories from undergraduates to doctoral candidates.
She was most recently guest performing artist and lecturer in the inaugural
season of the Armidale Liederfest.
