Colin Hoorweg is a respected and highly regarded as one of Australia’s finest Jazz drummers and Jazz Educators.

He has been a professional drummer for more than forty years and has taught the instrument for almost as long.

He has been a member of the Jazz Faculty since its’ inception in 1985. Since that time many of his students have gone on to become excellent drummers who contribute a great deal, nationally and internationally to the jazz community as well as all areas of music.

Colin’s performing career has covered virtually every style of music from Jazz to Classical and even includes two years of playing traditional Shona tribal music from Zimbabwe.

He has played with most of Australia’s’ finest Jazz musicians including Dale Barlow, Don Burrows, George Golla, Julian Lee, Kerrie Biddell, James Morrison, Bob Sedegreen, Graeme Lyall, Johnny Nicole and Tony Gould.

Since the early 1980’s Colin has had the opportunity to perform with many internationally renowned musicians. Some of his favourites include; Nat Adderly, Richie Cole, Bobby Shew, Scott Hamilton, Lee Konitz, Warren Vache, Plas Johnson, Phil Wilson, Gene Rogers, Red Holloway, Wild Bill Davidson, Joe Newman, Cal Collings and Mundell Lowe among others.

In 1999 Colin released his critically acclaimed solo CD “Coexistence”. He is a year 2000 Churchill Fellow and was nominated for the 2001 Canberra Artist of the year award.
