Open Day 2008


Visit and experience the School of Music (Building 100) and talk with current students and staff.
Information will be available on all our programs from pre-tertiary through to PhD and everything in between!

Course Information

“Music Info Session” with Gary France, 11am-11:30am – Manning Clarke Centre (Theatre 4) Building 26A
(Please note: This session is NOT held at the School of Music)

Music Library
The Music Library is located on the ground floor of the School of Music and has a focus on the specific requirements of music performance, composition, and research. The Music Library collection includes performance scores, collected works, CDs, LPs, books, and journals. Online music collections include research databases and electronic journals, and there are listening and viewing facilities for CDs, audiotapes, LPs, videotapes, and DVDs available in the library.
Research and Music - There will be screening of selected DVD's in the Library between 10.30 – 3.30 and the Music Library staff will be available all day to give tours, answer your questions, and help introduce you to our collection.
Open all day, 10am - 5pm

Friends of the School of Music
The Friends of the School of Music is a non-profit association who aim to be a source of practical and financial support to staff and students of the ANU School of Music and to advance musical endeavors within the School and the community. They will be on hand all day in the main foyer outside the Library.

Food & Drinks
Indulge in delicious coffee, cake and lunch at Biginelli Expresso while you enjoy the fabulous program of free music presented by the students and staff of the School. Open all day on Level 5.

Live Broadcast
The very popular ArtSound FM will be broadcasting live from the school all day.

Concerts
There will be staff, student and alumni performances all day, throughout both buildings of the School of Music. Our Concert Coordinator, Belinda Kelly will be set up on Level 4 providing information about our Semester 2 Concert Diary.

Master Classes
Come and participate in free masterclasses with the distinguished staff of the ANU School of Music. If you prefer, you can just sit in and observe. All welcome!

Jazz
Studios open between 10-4pm for information and audition tips (guitar, piano, bass, trumpet, sax and drums)
Workshops and masterclasses. Improvisation Masterclass (all instruments) and Rhythm Workshop.
Performance by the Jazz Commercial Ensemble. 11:30am .
Jazz Alumni Ensemble Concert, 1pm.
ANU Big Band perform in Llewellyn Hall at 3pm.

World Music
Gamelan performances at 11 and 11:30am.
Chinese Ensemble performance at 1pm.
Chinese Lion Dance Spectacular at 12:30pm .
Brazilian Ensemble performance 2pm.

Keyboard Institute

Piano student performance followed by a masterclass with the staff of the Keyboard Institute from12 noon.
Fortepiano recital performed by Geoffrey Lancaster at 2pm.
Demonstration and tour of the Keyboard Institute collection, 3pm.

Strings
String Masterclass with Tor Fromyhr at 1pm

Woodwind
Flute masterclass with Virginia Taylor.
Flute performance on Level 5 at 1:30pm.
Clarinet Quintet performance Level 5 at 2:30pm

Percussion
Marimba performance on Level 4 at 1pm.
Percussion advice session at 3pm.

Voice
Alan Hicks available 10am-2pm for information and advice on ANU Voice courses.
Masterclass with ANU Voice Area staff at 2pm .

Guitar
Enjoy the sweet sounds of our classical guitarists as you sit back with lunch or a coffee and cake on Level 5 at 12noon.

Brass
ANU Brass Ensemble performance in the Piazza from approximately 12:45pm
