Friends of the School of Music

About us

The Friends of the School of Music is a non-profit association who aim to be a source of practical and financial support to staff and students of the ANU School of Music and to advance musical endeavors within the School and the community.

We fund prizes for musical performance and academic achievement, provide grants to students and staff for music development projects; and help fund the production of musical events such as the School's George Limb opera series.

We raise money for ongoing activities through concerts, donations and membership fees. Staff, students and alumni of the School donate their performances before paying audiences recruited by the Friends.

Membership of the Friends brings entitlement to generous concessions to School concerts and School Library membership, and the opportunity to meet students and staff and to advance the cause of musical education and appreciation in Canberra .

Grants, Fellowships and Prizes

Student grants.
Students interested to apply for grants can download Student Grant Guidelines and the Student Grant Application pro-forma.

Staff Traveling Fellowship 2009.
School staff interested in applying can download Guidelines for the 2009 Friends’ Staff Traveling Fellowship.

The Friends’ Bernhard Neumann Memorial Prize.
Students are invited to strive for the annually awarded Bernhard Neumann Memorial Prize. Valued at $1,000, this prize is awarded to a fourth year student of outstanding ability who has made a significant contribution to the School. Check the history through the List of Friends Prize winners (note the name change in 2003).
