YANKEE GROUP FORESEES 10 MILLION NETWORKED DIGITAL HOMES BY 2003
A new report by the Yankee Group indicates that almost 10 million
homes in the United States will be equipped with home networks by
2003, compared to about 650,000 today. The information by the
Yankee Group was presented at a recent forum in Santa Clara,
California, which was attended by such technological industry
leaders as Microsoft, Sony, and Sun Microsystems. Industry
leaders agreed about the potential of home networking, and they
say that eventually every technological component of a home will
be connected and will also incorporate Internet access. One of
the main focuses in home networking is Internet connections, and
several manufacturers are developing household appliances such as
refrigerators that can also connect to the Internet. The Yankee
Group says consumers seem to be ready for home networking because
it is now affordable, non-intrusive, and open to several
applications. (E-Commerce Times 10/20/99)
