Splutter. Since when does "Not owning Net Nanny" equate to failure? And this
gets reported with _no_ discrimination by the journalist.

This parent, for example, follows a very simple expedient: I join in with what
the kids are doing. The computer's nearby to the kitchen and family room.
Supervision doesn't have to be intrusive. And it doesn't have to be by NetNanny.

We've commented before on researchers and analysts on this list. If I knew
anything about IMR, I would be asking about methodology and about who funded
this research.

Parents fail to nanny children snared in the Net

Parents are doing little to shield their children from pornography and
violence on the Internet as its popularity among teenagers explodes, the
first national report into Internet use by parents and children has
found.

Only 6 per cent of parents in the Australian survey said they used software
programs, such as Net Nanny, to restrict their children's access to
pornographic or violent Internet sites.

...

Of 500 households surveyed, one-third of children aged six to eight surfed
the Net. Eighty per cent of teenagers said they used the Net.

...

About one-third of children had their own e-mail addresses.

The president of the NSW Federation of Parents and Citizens' Associations,
Ms Bev Baker, said parents had to be able to trust their children and did
not have the time to be peering over their shoulders as they surfed the Net.

"The Internet is uncensorable. It is too big."
