AOL may well have hit the mark by selling services rather than Internet
Access. While Link Subscribers may be addicted, I frequently meet
"normal" people who sign up and then wonder what all the hype was about.
It will be interesting to see if the online community angle actually
works. Australia has a different social and weather climate. We are
still happy to go out on a barmy night and feel relatively safe. This
pitch may face the same issues as cable vs the video store.
