Just to lighten things up a little:

It won't be in stores until holiday shopping
frenzy is at its peak in December, but
Sharp Electronics Corp.'s latest gadget
may be the Cabbage Patch doll of
cyberspace. We're talking here a $150
thingie with a Chiclet-size keyboard and
clamshell LCD screen that lets you type in
and read e-mail messages. When ready to
send or receive, you just dial an 800
number and jam the little box up against the
receiver's mouth piece. It howls and squalls
and the other end squeaks and buzzes
back. Data gets sent and received by those
sounds and you then turn on the screen and
read your e-mail. No mess, no wires, no
modem. No PC either.
It only handles e-mails of up to 800 words
and costs $10 per month for Internet
service, but if it works as promised, Sharp
PocketMail will, indeed, be sharp.
