HTML in email

Without wishing to rehash the discussion about the evils of HTML
email . . . where do you think I found this succinct description of
why HTML email is a bad idea, at least on a mailing list?

Post HTML at your own risk.

Keep in mind that not everyone uses mail
or news readers that can easily display
HTML messages. Consequently, you will
reach a larger audience if you post in
plain-text. Many people simply ignore
HTML messages, because it takes a
nontrivial amount of effort to read them.

This is at the epicentre of browsers and HTMLisms: Mozilla - the
open-source Netscape Communicator development operation, in the
instructions to the supremely technophile programmers who work on the
browser code, and soon the HTML capable mail and news code as well.

Linkers who program: Take a look at their CVS system, "Bonsai" and
especially "Tinderbox" where SGI, Linux, Windows and Mac machines
continually rebuild the software and show up red when something is
wrong - to indicate who of the programmers on the left are the
Guilty Ones.
