I agree. It's not only bad karma, it's pure fabulation. Think about it.
This perversion of the DNS is about magically creating virtual
territory, and then selling it to those who are silly enough to pay for
it. Do we really want the DNS to be controlled by wannabe real eatate
agents?

creativity to think that up. :-) But you've hit the nail on the head.

It's also happening with email addresses. Mailbank has created or
secured rights to addresses based on common surnames and is selling
them. See

I saw a Bundaberg Rum ad on TV tonight. They settled for the
counterintuitive domain name:

bundaberg.aust.com

*sigh* I have felt for a long time that careful (and strictly
allocated) domain naming is critical for easing a user's search
process.
