Compression Algorithm

Hello All,

I have just heard something quite amazing, on good authority, and want
to check out if anyone on link can verify this news ... or not, as the
case may be.

Apparently a U.S. applications author, Vernon Buerg, has just patented
a new compression algorithm so efficient that it can compress any file
down to just a few bytes, and hence store them as filename characters.

One example he has apparently demonstrated is a 600Kb+ text file which
was compressed to just an 8 byte file name. The application is called
GREB, and is a 25Kb .com file available for Win/Mac/Unix(AT&T V3.4vll)
and also Digital Vax VMS. The application is to be distributed through
Egghead Software, and will be available quite soon now.

As I'm sure you will agree, this sounds quite un-believable, and hence
I have a dreadful feeling that this is an early April Fool's Day joke.
But, if true, who needs gigabytes of storage, and even much bandwidth?

Can anyone confirm this information?

Happy trails ..
