Dear Members, ISPs and other Industry participants,

Firstly, apologies to those of you on multiple lists but the importance
of these issues warrants your attention.

The Internet Industry Association (IIA) has arranged a half-day
conference with key industry bodies to address some of the current
industry concerns on

Wednesday 5 November 1997 at the Hotel Inter-Continental, Sydney, 117
Macquarie Street, Sydney

Presentations and questions/answer sessions have been organised with:

* Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman - John Pinnock

* Department of Communications, the Information Economy & the
Arts - interception issues

* Australian Federal Police - Michael Hawley - child protection
and Internet policing

* Telstra - John Rolland - ISP issues and areas of concern

* Australian Broadcasting Authority - content regulation

* Australian Competition and Consumer Commission - service
provider requirements

The half-day conference will give participants a chance to hear from
specific parties and ask questions on the development of the Internet
Industry in Australia. The sessions will be particularly oriented to the
current and emerging issues facing the ISP community as well as the
significant Electronic Commerce considerations.

There will be no fee for the half-day conference for IIA members
(including former intiaa and AIA members), and non members may attend on
payment of $50.00 which will be refunded in full on joining IIA.

It is also expected that a couple of significant announcements,
impacting the ISP community in particular, will be made at the
conference.

Preceding the conference will be a breakfast from 7.30am - 9.00am where
the speaker will be Senator The Hon. Richard Alston, Minister for
Communications, Information Economy and the Arts. The Minister will
address policy issues in the information economy and will outline his
new role as Minister in the this important and emerging area.

The cost for the breakfast is $35.00 per member; $45.00 per non member.

Based on the success of previous breakfast/seminar presentations it is
expected that bookings will be filled quickly so you should complete the
Registration Form below and email/fax/mail it back as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Richard Cousins
Chairman, IIA
