The proposal for the Australian Government to register and
oversee key certification bodies is good, as it in the
public interest to not have this function performed by
private enterprise. However, it is important that the
interests of the public, and not PTT agencies, dominiates.
I respond:
Since this government seems to be prone to outsource things after being
put in place, I wonder if it would be wise to put in legislation somewhere
governing this that at no time will this function be operated outside of a
govenrment agency. That way there is some certainty that a private
company woudn't have access to the information. Or have I missed the
point on this? [cipher managerment is not my strong suit! ;-)]
