The Hopi indians have a word that covers the cause: Koyaanisqatsi. It
means (inter alia) life out of control, chaos, life out of balance.

Covers the causes of IFS nicely.

Only one worry: why should a balanced, settled people like the Hopi have
the need for such a word? Maybe they saw IFS (and us) coming?
