The facts do differ from this evidently uninformed account...
My position on the IAHC was as a nominee of the IAB, and had a term of
one year. The two 1996 IAB nominees were Hank Nussbacher from Israel
and myself. Our term expired in August 1997, and the IAB has nominated
Patrick Falstrom from Sweden and Rob Austein from the US to the POC
as our successors.
It was certainly the case that the IAHC work covered a large amount of
ground, and there was no shortage of views as to What To Do with the
DNS from the internet community at large over the course of the
year. Its also true to say that the IAHC proposals have not met with
universal acclaim, and there have been a wide variety of responses
from the thoughtful to the irrationally unconstructive, to this work.
I note that the Policy Oversight Committee continues to work
strenously to integrate constructive views and perspectives into the
gTLD structure. From my perspective the outcomes proposed by the IAHC
were directed at making the effort more open to all parts of the
globe, rather than being a somewhat US-centric activity, and I note
with some pleasure that a couple of Australian entities will be active
in this domain in the near future.
If any link readers have specific questions regarding the IAHC
activity and its current status I'd be pleased to answer them - as I
don't follow the link mailer these days I'd prefer if you got in touch
with me directly, at the address below.
thanks,
Geoff
