While my prmary work machine is a Win98 PC, I use my charcoal iMac for
video editing and CD production - at least that was the excuse I used for
buying back into the Mac world after a few years out of it. I still have my
original 128k mac in the garage (I keep threatening to turn it into a fish
tank but have never had the heart to do it), and I kept on using them at
RMIT for a number of years, and regretted leaving them behind at the end of
an EdNA project..
Using a digital video camera for work and for play, I was doing quite a bit
of editing on my PC, using an analog video capture card, but I wanted to be
able to export DV quality footage, and looked around, a bit over a year
ago, at what would be needed to upgrade my PC to do this. It turned out it
was cheaper to buy a DV iMac than it was to ADD/UPGRADE components to my
existing PC to allow for editing DV footage, so I finally had a
justification for buying another Mac :-)
Still using system 9.1, but wouldn't trade the computer for the
world.... It is also the only machine that I am happy for my 2 and 3 year
old kids to use - they can tun it on and start the videos of their last
trip on puffing billy without any trouble at all, and they aren't going to
do any damage to a machine that I also use for work in the process.
