Richard

If Fred's original comment had been as helpful as his second there would
have been less temptation to 'play the man', as you put it.

However enough of that. Let me make a few comments.
1. I have asked our tech people for urgent advice on all the matters
raised and I will let the list know their response as soon as it is
available.
2. I suspect that at least some of them relate to the fact that, as a
condition of their involvement, WCIT has (quite understandably)
controlled most aspects of the security of the site and the site design
itself.
3. Did it occur to you to start a thread on the site about ensuring
better accessibility? That's part of what an open forum is for and may
have given you and Fred and others the opportunity to balance the
so-called 'orgy of feather-brained self-congratulation'. (Didn't have a
mirror in hand when penning that little bon mot did you Richard?)
4. I have yet to hear the sound of even one hand clapping from people on
this list for the fact that a couple of not-for-profits have made a
brave (if not perfect) attempt to open the door of an event such as this
to the average punter across the world and that this is a world first.
Call me naïve but I thought we Australians usually applauded battlers
who have a go.
5. The organisers of the next 2 WCIT events, Athens in 2004 and Austin
in 2006, love the concept and have agreed to develop it further for
those events, so we have won the day on the principle of community
involvement.

Try and enjoy your day in this imperfect world and I'll get back to you
all.

Regards

Doug

Sorry to join the chorus of "Linkers with bad Livers", Doug, but you
>would< take a swipe at the man instead of the ball.

The page works(ish) in IE 5. In Netscape 6? ... well, it took a couple
of tries. The fancy menus don't work, some of the links don't always
load probably so that clicks do nothing, it's all as slow as a wet week,
and as an illustration of capability, it's pretty much in line with the
congress
itself: an orgy of featherbrained self-congratulation.

Oh, and insisting on opening forever-more browser windows when the user
follows a link is a pain in the neck (no back button).

Also, I presume the site was designed under the assumption that nobody
ever wants to >print< anything they see on a Website. If anyone tested
the printing, they'd probably have stopped the site wasting paper on
pages that have nothing but the colour-bar at the top.

So, my liver is fine, my browser is good enough, and I think I'll throw
in my lot with those who criticise the site design.
