When I did Accountancy around 1970, we studied the
conflict-of-interest aspects of accounting firms doing consultancy.
We concluded that it was dreadful, and that precisely nothing would
be done about it because the self-interest was too high, and it's
largely self-regulatory (i.e. such regulation as exists is image not
substance). We wuz right ...
