Democracy alert:
1. Legal issues are social issues - things that affect everyone. In a
democracy, everyone is entitled to comment any way they wish.
2. Most lawyers don't understand technology issues anyway, so the fact that
an opinion comes from a "lawyer" doesn't necessarily mean anything.
3. Many lawyers or their firms generally represent big companies. Their
views may be biassed, even if by the failure to speak on particular topics
that would offend their large clients. This is especially pertinent
regarding many current technology issues.
4. Intelligent people can generally form a view as to the value of an
expressed opinion based on a range of attributes.
5. Especially in technology areas, it won't be lawyers who first identify
the significant issues in new laws.
