Dear LINKers

Web Accessibility Workshops

Vision Australia Foundation and VICNET are running two workshops in
Melbourne at the State Library on 21 September and four in Canberra on
Thursday 27 September 2001, at the National Farmers Federation, Barton ACT
and on Friday 28 September 2001, at the Department of Family and Community
Services Tuggeranong ACT.

These half-day workshops provide participants with a thorough overview of
accessibility issues in terms of Australian policy contexts and
internationally recognised requirements, including the Online Council
adoption of the World Wide Web Consortium's Content Accessibility
Guidelines.

The NFF-based workshops will cover general accessibility issues and focus
particularly on accessibility issues faced by people in rural and regional
Australia. The Melbourne and FaCS workshops will look at accessibility
issues for all Australians.

The morning workshops provide the broad overview. They concentrate on the
whys and wherefores of web accessibility, demonstrating the issues and
solutions. The issues confronting users with particular needs will also be
explored, including people from rural Australia, people with disabilities
and older people.

The afternoon workshops provide an in-depth look at particular accessibility
issues, with an emphasis on techniques and assessment tools.

Participants in all workshops will be able to see and hear how different
sites appear to people using assistive technology and people facing
bandwidth limitations. Relevant international guidelines will be
distributed.

Full details, including registration forms and costs, are available from
http://www.vicnet.net.au/disability/training/

We hope to run similar workshops in Brisbane and Perth in coming months.

People are welcome to give me a call if they would like further information.

Andrew
