Hi Linkers,
I have a question about the GIF graphics format that I haven't been able
to find an answer for. Is there such a thing as 24 bit GIF graphics? If
so, is it 'supported' (in whatever sense you choose to define that word
:) ? I thought the lack of >8-bit support in the GIF format was a raison
d'etre for the PNG format... (besides the patent issues)?
I am asking because I was recently sent a URL to a page that was missing
some graphics when I viewed in Mozilla 0.9.3. Anyway, the page viewed
fine in IE 5.5 so I did some digging, and found that the missing
graphics were all 24 bit GIFs.
[Aside: The recent releases of Mozilla have been fantastic, and it has
almost replaced IE as my primary browser (except on those sites which
kick you off unless you're using IE, damn them). It's quick, it's
compatible and it's very full-featured. It's also been a long time
coming...]
