I'm no Windows apologist, but I don't think it's *inherently* less
secure than other operating systems. Its authors just don't pay much
attention to security issues. The result is a package that is wide open,
but not "inherently" so. Windows could be quite secure if Microsoft did
just three things:

- delivered their product with all network services turned OFF by
default
- delivered their product with functional packet filtering
- delivered their applications with automatic execution of macros and
executables OFF by default

There are lots of other little things but those three would make a huge
difference. It is a complete mystery to me why Microsoft still doesn't
do these things; I can only surmise that they quite literally do not
care.
