Linkers
Despite being personally very disappointed and angry at the actions that
lead to this particular discussion, I have had a day or so to think
about the general idea of banning people from the Link list, something
that in my anger of yesterday I thought of quite highly!
Tony's post on this subject is I think a clear example of why Link is
such a successful discussion group: the list is run _for_ the
subscribers and not _by_ him.
Tony's touch has been light - and we, the users, manage 'miscreants' in
a variety of ways - up to and including the pretty clear 'put up or shut
up' that has (again) been issued in this case. Ultimately, such
individuals will end up with their credibility suitably dented by their
own statements.
Where internal management does not work, I am sure Tony would take a
hand (as he has on rare occasions in the past). Where appropriate,
individuals and organinsations can also consider legal action.
So, whilst I disagree with the statements made that sparked this debate,
I would not like to see Link start to ban people.
