Sustainability

The ANU Sustainability Learning Community (SLC) is a network of students and staff from across the university who are tackling day-to-day environment and sustainability-related issues in the campus community.  Students in the SLC come from a wide range of disciplines including environmental science, geography, economics, management, sociology, political science, law, physics, maths and engineering.  Students and staff explore the principles of sustainability together while gaining practical skills and learning how to reduce their individual and collective impact on the environment.

The SLC has established a student-run organic garden and offers workshops on related topics.  Students have organized a sustainability speaker and film series and work on a variety of projects relating to campus sustainability ranging from waste and energy auditing, behaviour change initiatives, biodiversity monitoring and landscape rehabilitation.  Each year the SLC hosts the World Environment Day Great Green Debate featuring a current environmental theme.

Any student or staff member can become a member of the SLC by joining the mailing list.  A regular newsletter distributes information on events and initiatives happening on and off campus.  Students can also join any of several project specific working groups.
