Asia-Pacific
The Asia-Pacific learning community is interested in important issues affecting the region, including economic development, movement of peoples, religion, climate change and cultural change.
This year activities include forums on the impact of the US sub-prime crisis on the region, how Islamic law co-exists with other forms of law, patterns of development in China, microfinance in the Asia-Pacific region and Pasifika peoples in Australia. There are also conversation groups for international students, an evening of Indian storytelling and information sessions for students preparing for exchange or short study courses in other countries. Later this year we are planning a programme of related events focused on people from Pacific Island nations, including an day of music and activities as part of an ANUSA Fun Day, a public forum on the contributions of Pasifika peoples to Australian culture, a university experience program for Pasifika high school students and displays around the university promoting Pacific studies and the experience of Pacifika peoples in Australia.
