Shaping Lives - Reflection on Biography

This volume contains a selection from the large range of papers on the topic of Biography and Autobiography that were delivered in the HRC throughout 1990. All of the papers included here - with the exception of James Walter's, which was written specially for the volume - were originally presented at one or other of the HRC's two major thematic conferences, "Shaping Lives" and "Self and Text".

"Shaping Lives", the first of the conferences, examined a series of interrelated formal and philosophical questions which bore special focus on biographical information.

The second conference, "Self and Text", extended these concerns while examining a number of theoratical questions concerning the nature of selfhood and of biographical evidence.
