Projecting The Landscape

All the papers presented in this volume derive from the HRC's annual theme for 1984 : "Landscape and the Arts". They reflect the original idea of the theme, which was to confront the relationships between ideal and real landscapes and to examine the role of landscapes in a culture's projection of itself. Each paper formed a link in a developing argument about theories of representation and their social ( and political ) consequences.
