NeoHellenism

The identity of Neohellenism is debated vigorously both within and outside Greece, the impetus deriving partly from political events and social change, partly from historical and anthropological research, and partly from contemporary developments in the theory of interpretation.

Most of the papers in this volume were prepared in connection with the conference on "Hellenism & Neohellenism : Problems of Identity" held at the University of Melbourne in August 1985, with one from its Byzantine counterpart in the same series on Hellenism sponsored by the HRC.

The papers in this collection can be seen as a contribution not to a mere debate but to the very process of the evolution of the study of Neohellenism.
