Visual Cultures of the British WorldThe 15th Conference of the Australasian Modern British History AssociationSeptember 15-16, 2007Venue: Australian National Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour, Sydney Generously sponsored by the
This year’s AMBHA
conference focuses on the rich and diverse forms of visual culture in
modern British history. The convenors hope to encourage exchange among
scholars involved in the analysis of visuality and visual records of the
past. A visual culture will be defined broadly, from a discipline involving
visual analysis to a circle of visual-art practitioners, from a graphic
record of an event or a community to a historic theory of art and the
visual. The conference will highlight the importance of visual culture
in understanding Britain’s past, especially in the fields of politics,
commerce, biography, and imperial expansion.
The convenors particularly welcome papers that understand Britain as a global phenomenon in the modern era, encompassing the Atlantic, Pacific, Eastern, and diasporic worlds. Any time period from Britain’s first empire to the present is acceptable. Conveners: kfullagar@gmail.com & tina.parolin@anu.edu.au For further information about the conference, please contact the convenors. |
