Eligibility to use the Health Service

The Health Service is provided for students and staff of the ANU.

Students are bulkbilled through either Medicare (domestic students) or Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC - International Students). ANU Staff are charged at a discounted rate.

Spouses and children of International Students are also eligible for bulkbilled services under OSHC.

Spouses and children of students who share a Health Care Card with the student member will also be eligible for bulkbilling.

There needs to be a blanket restriction on access to the HS by new patients due to unpresedented demand for services.

Effective immediately, NEW "others" will be seen only if there is a defined link to the ANU - ie "they are a part of the ANU community". Examples of those that would be seen as a new patient are:

· Visiting academics actually officially visiting the ANU (not just Canberra) for a finite period. Full rate of $70 for a standard consultation.
· Contract workers (currently working at the ANU) with an acute illness/injury. Full rate of $70 for a standard consultation.
· Spouses and children of students or staff who share a Health Care Card will be bulkbilled.

Examples of those that would be denied access as a NEW patient (except in an emergency) would be:

· Members of the public
· Boyfriend/girlfriend of a current patient ("just visiting the ANU")
· Child of a staff member or student (other than overseas students)
· Students of other universities visiting Canberra with no link to the ANU
