A.E. RINGWOOD SUPPLEMENTARY SCHOLARSHIP (FOR PHD RESEARCH IN EARTH SCIENCES)

The A.E. Ringwood Scholarships are designed to attract students of high calibre to pursue PhD research in Earth Sciences.

Field of Study: Earth Sciences

ANU Location of Study: Research School of Earth Sciences
Stipend: A$8,002 (2009 rate) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments
Other Benefits: Awardees of this scholarship will have been successful in obtaining a full Tuition Fee Scholarship and an ANU (stipend) Scholarship; which include travel to Canberra; reimbursement of some removal expenses, thesis reimbursement allowance.

Maximum Duration: Three years full-time, with a possible six month extension
Take Up By: 31 March

Eligible Program(s): PhD

Eligibility Criteria: Bachelors degree with first-class honours, or a research Masters degree from a recognised university; International Students

ANU ALUMNI PHD SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year the University offers up to one scholarship each for nationals of Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore.

Stipend: A$22,500 (2010 rate) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments. This scholarship also pays the tuition fees for the tenure of the program (three years with two (2) possible six month extensions)

Other Benefits: Travel to Canberra; reimbursement of some removal expenses; thesis reimbursement allowance

Maximum Duration (stipend): Three years full-time, with a possible six month extension

Take Up By: N/A
Eligible Program(s):
PhD.

Eligibility Criteria: International students who are nationals of Japan, Malaysia, Thailand or Singapore

ANU TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS

A number of ANU Tuition Scholarships are funded and awarded by individual Colleges and determined as part of the application process. This scholarship covers international student tuition fees.
Other Benefits: N/A
Maximum Duration: Three years full-time, with two possible six month extensions
Take Up By: 31 March (normally).
It is expected that the scholarship normally will be taken up by 31 March in the year for which it is awarded, although, subject to the approval of the prospective supervisor, Head of Department and Dean/Director, a later start date may be possible. The date by which a scholarship must be taken up in a particular instance will be made clear in the formal letter of offer for the scholarship

AUSTRALIAN AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (AUSAID) SCHOLARSHIPS*

The Australian Government foreign aid program provides for a limited number of scholarships for international students from developing countries to study in Australia. These scholarships are administered by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). Please refer to www.ausaid.gov.au; or to the general site for Australian Government scholarships: www.australianscholarships.gov.au  

Australian Development Scholarships

The Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) are available to many countries under agreements for development assistance from Australia. The scholarship numbers and fields of study for each country are determined annually in close consultation with partner governments. ADS are offered in two categories: Public and Open/Equity. The government or employer in a partner country nominates candidates for scholarships in the public category. Individuals may independently apply for a scholarship in the open/equity category, subject to any country-specific selection and eligibility criteria.

Stipend: A$25,000 (as from 1 July 2009) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments

Other Benefits: Full tuition fee; travel to Canberra from outside Australia; basic health insurance; establishment allowance; introductory academic program

PhD, Professional Doctorate by Research, MPhil and graduate coursework. (Some undergraduate programs may be approved under home country priority areas)

Eligibility Criteria: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Fiji, Indonesia, Kenya, Kiribati, Laos, Lesotho, Malawi, Maldives, Mongolia, Mozambique, Namibia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Zambia

Australian Leadership Awards

The Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)* are a regional scholarship and training scheme for future leaders aimed at enhancing mutual understanding, knowledge and innovation and building partnerships within the Asia-Pacific region.

Stipend: A$26,800 (as from 1 July 2009) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments

Other Benefits: Full tuition fee; travel to Canberra from outside Australia; basic health insurance; establishment allowance; introductory academic program; contribution to visa expenses.

Take Up By: Next academic year
Eligible Program(s):
PhD, MPhil and graduate coursework programs.

Eligibility Criteria: International students from eligible partner countries.

Applications Close: Students apply directly to the University for admission and to AusAID (Canberra) for the scholarship.  Applications for the scholarships close: 16 July 2007 (applications by post to Australian diplomatic mission in home country); 31 July 2007 (online applications).

ENDEAVOUR AWARDS

The Endeavour Program aims to strengthen bilateral ties between Australia and participating countries; showcase Australia's education sector to the world; strengthen mutual understanding between the people of participating countries; further develop Award holders' knowledge and skills in their field of study, and create/strengthen linkages between Australian higher education institutions and institutions in participating countries.

 

There are a number of Endeavour Awards available including the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships listed below. The website http://www.endeavour.deewr.gov.au/ provides further information about the other Endeavour awards.

 

 

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS)

The International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) are available for study leading to the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy or to a Master of Philosophy and are funded by the Commonwealth Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR). Because competition for the scholarships is intense, at ANU they are not awarded for study at the Master degree level. Successful applicants will study in areas in which the University has shown a particular research concentration.

Stipend: N/A. Tuition scholarship

Other Benefits: N/A

Maximum Duration: Three years full-time, with two possible six month extensions (subject to change by DIISR)

Take Up By: 31 March
Eligible Program(s):
PhD, Professional Doctorate by Research

Eligibility Criteria:  Bachelors degree with first class honours, or a research Masters degree from a recognised university; International students. Applicants who have applied and been unsuccessful for an IPRS in previous years are ineligible to apply

JOHN CURTIN SCHOOL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH (JCSMR) SCHOLARSHIPS

JCSMR offers the following scholarships: the Eccles Scholarship and the Zinkernagel Scholarship.

 

Eccles Scholarship

The Eccles Scholarship designed to attract international students of high calibre to pursue graduate research at the John Curtin School of Medical Research.

Field of Study: Medical Sciences

ANU Location of Study: John Curtin School of Medical Research
Stipend: A$22,500 (2010 rate) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments plus payment of the annual tuition fees
Other Benefits: Travel to Canberra from within Australia; reimbursement of some removal expenses; thesis reimbursement allowance.

Maximum Duration: Three years full-time, with a possible six month extension
Take Up By: 31 March

Zinkernagel Scholarship

The Zinkernagel Scholarship is in honour of Professor Rolf Zinkernagel, who shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Professor Peter Doherty in 1996 for work done in the JCSMR. One Zinkernagel Scholarship will be awarded annually to the highest ranked successful JCSMR, (College of Medicine and Health Sciences) applicant for an Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (EIPRS).

Stipend: A$22,500 (2010 rate) per annum tax free, in fortnightly payments
