Help us convert cutting edge physics research into commercial opportunities. Proceeds from the Technology Development Endowment fund will support the translation of Research School of Physics and Engineering (RSPE) research into commercial outcomes.
RSPE has been highly successful in its commercial endeavours. However, the School recognises the challenges in translating research into commercial outcomes and the lack of financial assistance to trial new ideas and projects. As a result, RSPE has established the Technology Development Endowment (TDE) using the returns from the sale of its “spin-off” company Lithicon.
Lithicon, previously known as Digitalcore, was originally set up in 2009 by the Applied Mathematics team at RSPE in collaboration with colleagues at UNSW to develop an advanced computational approach to rapidly solving fluid behaviour in oil reservoirs. It has generated $76M for the university from the sale of Lithicon in 2014.
The Technology Development Award will support and provide opportunities for members of RSPE to grow and translate research into commercial outcomes. Each year the proceeds from the TDE Endowment will be granted to individuals or groups at RSPE to trial new research ideas that have commercial potential.
