This prize was established by the Andren family in memory of Peter Andren's work and values. Peter Andren was a successful news editor and producer for 27 years before turning to politics. He was elected to Federal Parliament as an Independent MP because he could see that the values he and the people he cared for had been abandoned by the major parties. Peter secured his safe seat in Parliament over the span of many years and was respected across the political spectrum. Peter strove to provide effective, consistent, ethical and responsible representation for his electorate. The Peter Andren Prize encourages students to take an interest in and strive for higher ethical standards in politics, government and public policy, an issue that Peter was a strong proponent for.
