Professor Patrick Troy AC (1936 -2018) was a pivotal figure in urban research in Australia and renowned internationally. He was influential in highlighting the role of government agencies and researchers in the development of making better Australian cities.

Emeritus Professor Patrick Troy AC (1936 -2018) was one of Australia's greatest champions for seeking social justice through planning for better cities. A professor in urban ecology and human environment, he spent an incredible 52 years as a research academic at ANU.

Professor Troy was an influential and respected mentor to many students, urban planners, researchers and public servants. To honour his legacy, Professor Troy's friends, family and colleagues have established The Patrick Troy Memorial Prize.

The Prize supports a student who has made a valuable contribution in the area of Urban Systems and Sustainability. This prestigious prize will support students to learn and develop their skills with experts in sustainable urban futures. As exemplified by Professor Troy, these future leaders will be equipped to influence planning of cities and improve urban life for everyone's benefit.

Emeritus Professor Frank Stilwell

A Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences, Professor Troy was driven by a strong sense of social equity and a passion for sustainability. He published 15 books on cities and many papers on housing, infrastructure, transport, urban planning and development, and energy and water consumption. He was also the Deputy Secretary in the Federal Department of Urban and Regional Development during the Whitlam Government.
