ANU Foundation USA launches inaugural appeal

14 December 2015

As alumni we care passionately about our university. We learnt first-hand how an ANU education can change lives and through this appeal we want to create the same opportunities for the next generation of ANU students and researchers."

Established in 2014, The ANU Foundation USA was formed to support the advancement of knowledge and learning at the ANU and the exchange of academic knowledge, faculty and students between universities in the US and the ANU. Organised and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, the Foundation is registered as a non-profit, tax-exempt organisation under Section 501(c) (3) of the IRS Code.

The Foundation is governed by a group of passionate alumni including Adam Ford (BEc '94), Simon Anderson (BSc '92, LLB '93, GDLP (Hons) '94), Sarah Backhouse (BJapS '95, BEc '95), Scott Leeb (MA '97) and Daniel Moss (BA '89).

ANU Foundation USA Chairman Adam Ford has lived in the US since 2006 and maintains a strong connection with the University.

"There are so many alumni, students, and staff who have made their mark across the globe and nowhere is there a more vibrant and dynamic ANU community than in North America."

"As alumni we care passionately about our university. We learnt first-hand how an ANU education can change lives and through this appeal we want to create the same opportunities for the next generation of ANU students and researchers."

One of the primary goals of the Foundation is to support knowledge exchange between the US and Australia - particularly supporting undergraduate students and early to mid-career researchers.

Undergraduate student Rebecca Prior attended the Intercollegiate Business Convention and the International Women in Business Summit, held by the Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business organisation.

"For me, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. This was made possible through two scholarships I received. Without this support I would not have been able to afford to visit Harvard. Receiving these scholarships changed my life and I am truly grateful" said Rebecca.

Rebecca hopes that other undergraduate students can follow in her footsteps.

"It's something I feel very passionate about, and now that I'm soon to be a graduate myself, I look forward to being able to give back to the University, so that I can help provide future students with the same opportunities that I've had."

Donations to the ANU Foundation USA will enhance research, support scholarships and awards, and facilitate development programs for students and early career researchers.
