In May a passionate team of ANU student and young alumni volunteers launched the University's first student led crowdfunding campaign in support of Engage: University Outreach.
Based at ANU, Engage was established in 2015 with the intention of making sure where you're from doesn't limit where you can go providing students the opportunity of choice for their future.
Engage gives primary and secondary students in regional areas the opportunity to meet ANU students and be inspired to think about the numerous career paths a university education to lead to.
The organisation relies on ANU students and recent graduates volunteering their time and knowledge to facilitate an assortment of workshops that provide students with the opportunity to make an informed choice about their tertiary education.
In 2015, Engage visited 1136 students at 15 schools. In 2016, Engage wants to double that number.
To achieve their ambitious target, Engage is running the first student led crowdfunding campaign through the University's dedicated student crowdfunding platform USEED@ANU. The crowdfunding goal of $8,000 will ensure that Engage can afford accommodation, food, petrol and car hire for their workshops in 2016-2017.
Engage is more than just fun road-trips and inspiring students - it's about giving regional students access to real university students and real options. It's about asking 'why not' and proving to regional students that they really can do anything they want.
To quote one of the founders, James;
"For me, Engage has always been about choice. Giving regional students an understanding of university empowers them to make an informed choice about their future beyond school."
