In conversation with Jane Harper

ANU/CANBERRA TIMES MEET THE AUTHOR

Jane Harper will be in conversation with Alex Sloan about her new stand-alone novel, The Lost Man, a powerful story of suspense, set against a dazzling outback Queensland landscape. Two brothers meet at the border of their vast cattle properties, at a stockman's grave, a landmark so old, no one can remember who is buried there.

But today, the scant shadow it casts was the last chance for their middle brother, Cameron. The Bright family's quiet existence is thrown into grief and anguish. Did Cameron lose hope and walk to his death? Because if he didn't, the isolation of the outback leaves few suspects. Dark, suspenseful, and deeply atmospheric, The Lost Man amply fulfils the promise of its predecessors and sets the bar even higher.

Jane Harper gained international success with her debut novel The Dry, winner of many awards including the 2017 Indie Award Book of the Year, the 2017 Australian Book Industry Awards Book of the Year Award. the CWA Gold Dagger Award for Best Crime Novel and the 2018 British Book Awards Crime and Thriller Book of the Year. Rights have been sold in 36 territories worldwide, and film rights optioned to Reese Witherspoon and Bruna Papandrea, the team behind Big Little Lies. Her bestselling second novel Force of Nature was "even more impressive than The Dry". (The Sunday Times)

Alex Sloan is the 2017 Canberra Citizen of the Year and is one of Canberra's best-known and loved personalities. She retired from the ABC radio after 27 years at the end of 2016 and is a regular conversationalist for ANU meet the author events.
