ANU Rural Medical Society (ARMS) would like to invite University Health Students and Community Members to attend the ARMS Close the Gap Conference 2017 on 8 - 9 April 2017.
The ANU Rural Medical Society's (ARMS) Close the Gap Conference brings together health students, health professionals and community members from the ACT, NSW and across the country to hear from leaders in Indigenous health.
The seminar on Saturday 8th will run from 9.30am to 5pm, featuring a unique performance by Johnny Huckle, a free barbecue lunch and five inspiring guest speakers providing fresh and positive insights into what is being done, and what needs to be done further, to improve Indigenous health outcomes.
At this year's conference, you will be inspired by speakers such as Professor Gracelyn Smallwood, Professor of Nursing at Central Queensland University and Adjunct Professor at the Division of Tropical Health and Medicine at James Cook University, Nicole Turner, from Newcastle University and Dr Ray Lovett, from National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health, Australian National University. The Sunday workshop will be delivered by Ms. Nicole Turner workshop and will focus on capabilities and cultural responsiveness.
To top off the Saturday night for student delegates is an amazing social event involving flannelette shirts, cowboy boots, massive roast dinner and bush dancing like you have never seen before!
A bus will be organised to take student delegates from the accommodation to the social event. Accommodation at YHA in the centre of Canberra for students coming from out of Canberra. Students studying health related disciplines or others students wanting to learn about Indigenous health are invited to register as student delegates, which includes participation in interactive workshops exploring Indigenous history, culture, and cultural responsiveness in the workforce which is held on the morning of Sunday 9th April.
Registration for ARMS members is $35 and for non-ARMS members is $40. Students also have the option to not attend the social event ($25 ticket).
