Brenda L Croft and Rhys Gibbs make their wedding happiness go further

Brenda L Croft and Rhys Gibbs

Brenda L Croft and Rhys Gibbs spread the joy of their wedding day even further by asking guests to support the Joseph and Lindsay Croft Scholarship at ANU in lieu of wedding presents.

Back in 2000 Brenda and her brother Timothy, assisted by close colleagues at the Jabal Centre, and friends who had made initial donations to the family, were instrumental in establishing the Joseph and Lindsay Croft Scholarship at ANU in honour of their late father and brother. Both Joseph and Lindsay were inspirational leaders in the Australian Indigenous community and felt passionately that further education was the key to Indigenous self-determination and direction. The scholarship established in their memory now assists undergraduate Indigenous Australian students to study at The Australian National University.

When Brenda and Rhys began organising their wedding in 2006 they wanted to use the happiness of the occasion to contribute to a cause they both believed in. They could think of nothing better than inviting their guests to contribute to the Joseph and Lindsay Croft Scholarship Fund instead of giving them presents, as they both already had all that they needed.

Their gesture was a huge success and has allowed the scholarship fund to grow significantly since their wedding in March 2008. Thanks to the generosity of Brenda and Rhys and their family and friends the Joseph and Lindsay Croft Scholarship Fund will now be able to provide even greater support to Indigenous Australian students studying at ANU.
