Your opportunity to step up in support of the rights of indigenous Australians
UN Association of Australia Conference on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
Parliament House, Brisbane - Friday August 28th 2009
On April 3 this year the Australian Government endorsed the 2007 United Nations (UN) Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
The UN Association of Australia (QLD) is organising a conference at which the rights of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander peoples,
as defined in the UN Declaration will be considered.
Are those rights respected or are they being violated?
How can we best live up to our obligations under the UN Declaration?
The conference is at Parliament House in Brisbane on Friday August 28th, 2009,
and we are offering three students the opportunity to attend.
Conference details
The costs of conference registration, travel to and from Brisbane, and overnight accommodation
will be met by the University through the Office of the Dean of Students.
In no more than 250 words, tell us why the Australian Government’s endorsement of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is important, and why sending you to this conference might help ensure that we live up to our obligations under the Declaration.
A selection panel including Penny Oakes (Dean of Students) and Sham Sara (President, ANUSA) will select the three successful applicants.
Please attach a brief relevant cv (2 pages max.) and an application to Dinah.Withey@anu.edu.au by Friday July 24th 2009.
