I have called this photo Saraswati's Spring,
which I feel captures the season, the watery context and goddess
of dnowlege, learning and wisdom's powers of creation. I live
close to the University, and one Saturday morning in spring 2005
I walked with my brother Matthew, his wife Elisabeth, and my dog
Poss'm through the Uni grounds to the National Museum for coffee.
I was pointing out my favourite spots as we went,
and I was using his camera to decide if I really wanted a digital
camera. Saraswati's Spring is one of the results of that morning;
my own digital camera is another. Because I entered Saraswati
in this competition I watched the development of the iris and
the toona australis closely again this September. The colours
didn't emerge together this year so I feel extraordinarily lucky
to have captured this fleeting moment of spring time.
