Requesting a featured page in ANU Search
Featured Pages appear at the top of ANU Search results when people enter trigger words into the search engine.
For example, the web sites for ANU Branding and Web Publishing at ANU both have the trigger word Style. Any search containing Style (for example "style guide", "Stylesheet", "Corporate style") will highlight these sites at the top of the ANU Search results (see image below).

Choosing Trigger Words
Everyone is limited to a maximum of 3 sets of triggers per URL. When a reader conducts a search, the ANU Search must consult the trigger list and return the relevant results. If the trigger list became too big, the search would run very slowly.
Since you only get 3 triggers, it is important to choose the terms carefully. While it may seem impossible to precisely describe the nature of your website or service in 3 words or less, it is worth the effort. You might want to find out what users are searching your site for to help you choose the most relevant terms.
As a guide:
- Trigger terms should reflect the primary subject(s) covered by the site. For example the terms 'positions vacant' and 'jobs' are used to highlight the “Positions Available at ANU” section of the Human Resources web site at http://info.anu.edu.au/hr/jobs/.
- Trigger terms should specify the primary service(s) provided by the site. For example, the term 'exam results' is used to highlight the ISIS service at http://isis.anu.edu.au/.
- Trigger terms should NOT be a list of metadata terms. The Featured pages service does not replace metadata within pages. Providing your list of metadata keywords is only duplicating the information that the search engine has already indexed. See applying metadata to your pages.
- Trigger terms should be short and specific. For example, if the term 'Search Campus Map' was used to trigger 'http://campusmap.anu.edu.au' the trigger would rarely be activated. The trigger can only activiate when the user types exactly the same term as what is in the trigger list. The featured page would only appear if the user types 'Search Campus Map' into the search engine, not if they type 'Search ANU Map' or 'Campus Map' or 'Search Map'. In this case, a better trigger term would be 'Map' - it is shorter, more specific and more likely to be typed into the search box by users.
- The same trigger word(s) can be used to feature more than one page. For example the trigger word “medicine” can be used to highlight URLs for John Curtin School Medical Research as well as the ANU Medical School.
Requesting a Featured Page
Submit a DOI Help Desk job to request a featured page, using the topics ANU Websites>Other. Specify up to three trigger words/terms, the title of the site, a brief description and the URL that should result. For example:
I would like to set up a featured page in anu search for 'http://info.anu.edu.au/hr/jobs/' for the terms 'positions vacant' and 'jobs'. The page Title is 'ANU Positions Vacant' and the Description is 'Jobs currently available at the ANU'.
