The ANU’s Centre for Dialogue’s Inaugural Dialogue in-the-round on ‘Building Sustainable Policy for Indigenous Affairs in Australia’ was held at AIATSIS on 21 June 2008. 25 Discussants who are Aboriginal spokespersons on the range of pressing issues and from around Australia engaged in constructive dialogue facilitated by Father Frank Brennan and Ms Kerry Arabena. The Dialogue was observed by 20 Observers from government, academia and industry. Policy proposals from the Dialogue are being compiled by the National Centre for Indigenous Studies (NCIS) and will be submitted by NCIS and the Centre for Dialogue to the federal Government after perusal by the Discussants. Celebration of Progress
The Australian Centre for Dialogue and supporters of the Centre celebrated the raising of the first $10M dollars from a philanthropist, and the new site for the Centre on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in the National Humanities and Science Campus. Senator Kate Lundy joined with Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Mandy Thomas and Project Director, Peter Hancock on 5 June to launch a new DVD promoting the Australian Centre for Dialogue and explaining the benefits of dialogue. Dialogue, Leadership and Change
The Centre for Dialogue and the Centre for Educational Development and Academic Methods (CEDAM) held in-the-round dialogue with Cliff Penwell of US based consultancy, Dialogos. The sessions focused on the use of dialogue to drive organisational change to respond to emerging societal needs. Participants from a range of disciplines at the ANU were given an enhanced appreciation of the effectiveness of constructive dialogue in driving change in teaching and research. |
Jodie Erikson of the Keystone Centre for Science and Public Policy, Denver USA facilitated this presentation in December 2008.
It attracted academics and professional facilitators from the government, private and non government sectors who engaged in dialogue with Jodie about
lessons learned from her experiences in collective decision making on projects with environmental and socio-economic impacts.
