New Media

This produces innovative research outcomes in digital media, including web-based hypermedia, CD-ROMs and flexible electronic publishing and involves a sustained contribution to:

  • producing innovative forms of social and historical research in digital media
  • playing a key role in facilitating the development of a national infrastructure for the creation, management and delivery of humanities research in new media
  • making the results of research available to a broad range of people and groups in a variety of forms, but particularly through digital media technologies
  • gaining knowledge about the impact of new technologies on everyday life within different communities
  • theorising the cultural impact of new technologies.
The Consortium of Research and Information Outreach (CRIO), a joint initiative of the CCR and the Humanities Research Centre, provides an intellectual environment and skill base for deploying new media towards research in the humanities and social sciences. CRIO brings together, in a formal relationship, leading multimedia researchers to enhance the use of digital communication technologies in academic research and the dissemination of information in these areas. It also aims to facilitate the use of digital media formats by cultural institutions. It encompasses shared facilities, infrastructure, and research programs.
