The purpose of the seminar is to share models for examining
cross-cultural transmission in and through dancing. Contributions
are invited from people who research dance and dancing, its
production or reception, in a range of historical and cultural
contexts and from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. Participants
will be invited to reflect on how concepts of embodiment, performativity,
ritual and enactment work in these contexts and what other theoretical
tools are useful in crosscultural dance research. More

Attending the seminar
Participants are invited to contribute a working paper to
the symposium of not more than 4000 words in length by
10 November. Participants attending will read the papers
in advance, and discussion will be focussed around these papers
and brief accompanying presentations. Participants are encouraged
to consider innovative ways of presenting their dance or choreographic
analysis.
The seminar is open to postgraduate students as well as experienced
researchers. Some assistance will be available for travel costs
and there will be an accompanying workshop on December 10 at
Mirramu Creative Arts Centre, just outside Canberra.
Please indicate if interested in participating or observing
at the workshop as numbers will be restricted to this event.
