Phaptawan Suwannakudt's large-scale mural projects in Buddhist temple halls were usually executed with water-based emulsion paint applied directly onto interior plaster walls. Typically, these projects covered hundreds of square metres. For her murals in other public spaces, such as hotels and convention halls, Phaptawan employed the same technique but worked on panels of canvases which were later hung together on large walls. This method was used to enable the painting to be done simultaneously as the construction of the building. To undertake these murals, Phaptawan led and supervised a team of about 10 people. The artist would create cartoon drawings on tracing paper as master copies, which the team would then replicate on the walls. Since moving to Australia in 1996, Phaptawan has been working on her own. She has begun working with acrylic on canvas and has placed her work into series' of smaller individual works.
