ACT Organisations

Community Services in the ACT

- Citizens Advice Bureau provides information on ACT community agencies, as well as referral and support.
- Tenant's Union ACT
- Youth InterACT provides information and resources for young people.
- Women's Information and Referral Service (WIRC) provides information and referral services for women and their families.
- Canberra Men's Centre (CMC) provides information, referral and support for men.

Free Legal Advice

- Youth Law Centre ACT provides a free legal and referral service for young people in the ACT.

Urgent Help

- Mental Health Crisis Assessment and Treatment Service (CAT) is part of the Canberra Hospital Mental Health Services tel: 1800 629 354 (24 hour service) and 6206 1065 (office hours)
- Lifeline Canberra 's mission is "to enhance the well being of the community through the provision of counselling and counselling related services, the core of which is a 24 hour crisis telephone counselling service". tel 13 11 14 (24hrs)
- Healthfirst is an ACT based 24-hour health information, advice and referral service staffed by registered nurses. tel 6207 7777

Beyond the ACT

Online resources and organisations providing helpful information on specific issues

- Authentic happiness focuses on positive emotions and strengths.
- Beyondblue provides information on anxiety and depression.
- The Moodgym Training Program is to "help you identify and overcome problem emotions" and to "show you how to develop good coping skills for the future so that you can enjoy good mental health".
- Reach Out! provides opportunities for young people to get help, explore issues and discover how other young people have got through difficult times.
- The Unabridged Student Counseling Virtual Phamphlet Collection has many useful brochures relating to student concerns available online.
- Auseinet (Australian Network for Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health) has links to many helpful Australian websites
