Speaking With Confidence for Undergraduates Only

1.00pm – 2.00pm Tuesday 19 August 2008
This session aims to build confidence in giving presentations and participating in discussions. Habits that enhance anxiety will be exposed and alternative attitudes and strategies to develop new attitudes will be proposed. Participants will review their current strengths as speakers and their goals for further development.
Sleep

A single session 1 hour workshop

In this hour we will look at common problems students have with sleep and some solutions. There will be time for individual discussion and sharing knowledge.
Skilling Up for Exams
This workshop is offered jointly by the Academic Skills and Learning Centre and Counselling Centre.

A single session 2 hour workshop
12.00pm - 2.00pm on Wednesday 8 October 2008
We will cover preparing for exams – looking at what to focus on and how to approach exams like multiple choice or essay questions. We also look at exam anxiety and how to manage it.
Relaxation Group
A single session 1 hour group over 5 Tuesdays
Each meeting will be facilitated by one of the ANU Counsellors

No registration required - Places are limited and the door closes once 15 people have arrived.
If you’ve been feeling anxious, irritable, tired or stressed – this group could be just what you’re looking for. We will meet for forty minutes so that group members can try out a variety of relaxation techniques. These are designed to help you feel more peaceful and to reduce tension and stress, as well as providing skills and practice so that relaxation becomes easier to achieve.
Group Hypnosis Session: Focussing on Study and Exams

A single session 1 hour workshop
1.00pm - 2.00pm Tuesday 28 October 2008
During this session we will engage in relaxation techniques that will allow you to tap into your subconscious mind. We will then do mental rehearsal -imagining yourself succeeding in your study and examinations. This will help you to feel more confident when you enter the actual situation. You will remember the entire hypnosis session and will only take on suggestions that are helpful to you. After hypnosis most people describe feeling relaxed, alert and refreshed.
